Stuart and I rescued our first Siberian in 1991, a grey and white female with ice blue eyes, who turned out to be a daughter of a well known show dog. Nakeyta had six 9 week old puppies who had never been weaned and weighed 26 pounds. After helping her get back into condition, she turned out to be the foundation for our breeding program. She is now 9 years old, spayed, a couch potato and the permanent puppy babysitter, as she loves teaching puppies. In 1993 we completed construction of our 20 run boarding and grooming kennel, naming it Overland Kennels. In 1995 we placed 18 Siberians and in 1996 we placed 19 Siberians. We follow the guidelines set by the Siberian Husky Club of America and use their adoption contracts. We also work very closely with county humane agents and the local shelters as well as Animal Friends from Pittsburgh. Only through their cooperation are we able to save so many Siberians. To date in 1997 we have placed 14 Siberians as of April 14th. We recently rejoined the Greater Pittsburgh Siberian Husky Club and I am their Public Education Coordinator and Rescue Coordinator. We are called the Siberian Husky Rescue of Western Pennsylvania. To accept a dog into the Rescue program from a private individual a donation is required. Dogs that come in with the humane agents or from shelters are not required to make a donation. Each individual who adopts a Siberian from our program is given a wealth of educational information from the national club. We do follow up on all of our adopted Siberians every six months to check on their progress.
